The clear up has begun following severe flooding over the weekend in St Ives, Zennor, Helston, Penzance and Falmouth caused by heavy overnight rain.
Residents of St Ives have waited for three years for the £10 million flood defence scheme to be completed, and only one month after it opened shops and houses in St Ives found themselves over 1 metre (3 feet) under water.
45 guests had to be moved to safety when the Chy An Albany Hotel in St Ives was flooded. “We are now working hard with the hotel owners to repair the damage and get the business fully operational again as soon as possible” says Steven Richford, Managing Director of Richfords Fire & Flood, a locally owned damage restoration firm.
The sheer volume of surface water in the town caused many toilets to back up with sewage, resulting in an unpleasant and potentially dangerous environment in the properties. We advise business and homeowners to take great care with personal hygiene following these types of incidents.
Many business and homeowners in the St Ives area called out Richfords rapid response teams over the weekend. “At this stage we are working closely with insurers to limit the damage caused, however it is likely that in total insurers will receive more than £1 million worth of claims” comments Michael Cooper, Business Development Manager at Richfords.
