In 2006 a team of seven firefighters from Cornwall set off on a daring expedition to cross the third largest glacier in the world; Vatnajokull in Iceland, a distance of 150km.
Listen to the teams Podcast to get a sense of what this challenge is all about.
The team consisting of Ray Filbey (Truro), Dave Diment (Camborne), Mark Kass and Simon Martyn (Falmouth), Tim Edwards, James Marks and Phil Hoare (Bodmin) competed this tremendous challenge and raised over £20,000 for charity.
Now in 2011 the Fire and Ice team have reformed for another 'little trip'. This time they are going up and not across. In March 2012 the team are going to attempt to summit a 6200m peak called Imja Tse in the Everest region of the Himalayas, to help raise money for three charities
It is hoped the trip can be used as a precursor for some members of the team to attempt Everest at a later date, however, it is recognised that further experience of high altitude mountaineering needs to be gained before such an attempt can be made.
Richfords Fire and Flood are proud to be supporting the Fire and Ice team and over the next year will be working with them to raise as much as possible for the three chosen charities.
