Richfords Fire and Flood is currently recruiting. Below is our latest press release and podcast which provideds further information about this latest, innovative, recruitment at Richfords.
EMBARGO: 00:01 23rd January 2012
The South West of England has seen a growing call for recovery from severe flooding incidents over recent years after incidents such as Bridgewater’s flood that caused West Quay collapse last November, a flash flood in Cuckoo Hill in South Somerset last month, to the horrendous flooding in Tewkesbury in 2007 and Boscastle’s destructive surge in 2004.
Because of more and more demand for help, Richfords Fire & Flood is expanding its operation by opening a new depot on the M5 at Cullompton. The firm is currently based in West Cornwall, but sends crews around the wider South West region to help recover businesses and homes from disaster. Technicians are scrambled at the first sign of bad weather – and respond to affected properties and use their skills in restoration of both buildings and contents to help families recover from these events.
Richfords Fire & Flood’s expertise is now so highly regarded that they are increasing their cover of Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Bristol, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and South Wales with a brand new base for equipment and crews. The £500,000 investment into the economy will create up to twenty new jobs and £1 million of business in the first year. As well as this direct boost to the local economy there will also be a significant indirect boost as much of Richfords work require the use of local contractors such as plumbers and electricians. The teams will also be working very closely with fire and rescue services around the region to help people prevent fire and flooding.
However, Richfords Fire & Flood cannot do all of this without support from the community. So, it is also publishing a call to action to recruit local people who would like to be involved in this type of recovery work. Richfords are recruiting for both full time technicians and for ‘Flexi-techs’.
Richfords team of ‘flexi-techs’ is made up of enthusiastic and hardworking community members who relish the opportunity to get stuck into this type of work but who do not wish to work all of the time. For example, many existing members of the ‘flexi-tech’ team are semi retired professionals such as teachers, fire fighters and
military personnel or are self-employed. The ‘flexi-tech’s’ are called in when disasters happen and work with Richfords full time technicians.
Richfords Fire and Flood MD, Steven Richford, said: “The need to help business and home owners recover from increasingly wild weather in our area means we have ever increasing demand for our services. This has lead to the need to expand our business. Our M5 depot will give us fast access to a large part of the South West and South Wales. We hope it will also be a welcome boost to many businesses that we would subcontract to.”
Mrs Abbott of Honiton was helped by Richfords when water poured into her home: "I could not have had a better service. If it hadn't been for Richfords I wouldn't have known what to do."
Mrs Day of Gloucestershire, who was affected by the 2007 flooding event in Gloucestershire, said "Richfords service was friendly and always on time, 10/10."
