Situation Analysis

Richfords were called to this property to carry out odour elimination treatments. This property suffered an electrical fire. Another restoration company carried out a £160,000 seven-month restoration project, however proper consideration was not given to the fire odours and they did not carry out any odour elimination work. When the property was ready for hand over to the owner, he complained about the untreated odour and Richfords were called in to carry out odour elimination.

Objectives

Carry out odour elimination without removing the plasterboard and damaging the fresh decorations.

Considerations

Trapped Odour

Odour elimination was required behind a number of newly decorated walls and floors. We found odour reservoirs in the attic, under floors, behind wall boards and panelling. How could we deliver odour elimination treatment behind the plasterboard with minimum disruption to the owner and damage to the newly decorated surfaces?

Implementation

• A full investigation of the building was carried out on arrival to locate areas of trapped odour that would require odour elimination.
• Small 8mm holes were made in the walls and we applied an odour elimination treatment using the KrugerAir injection system.
• Several applications of odour elimination treatment were delivered.
• The small holes were filled and sanded ready for touching in with paint.
• The loft-space and under-floor areas were treated with an oxidising wet odour elimination treatment.
• The owners were able to return to the property within a few hours.

Results

The odour elimination was completed and no trace of odour was found again. Expensive opening up of walls and floors were avoided by the innovative use of the KrugerAir injection system to deliver the odour elimination treatment.
