Situation Analysis

Richfords were called to carry out graffiti removal after a large wall in the centre of a town had suffered a graffiti attack overnight. The graffiti was very large and covered a whole wall that was over 6 feet high and 15 feet wide. Unfortunately the graffiti was offensive as well as generally unsightly and therefore graffiti removal needed to be carried out immediately.

Considerations

The construction and age of the wall, as well as the type of paint used needed to be considered when deciding what method and products to use in the graffiti removal process.

Implementation

• Due to the offensive nature of the graffiti a Richfords British Damage Management (BDMA) Technician was dispatched to the site immediately upon the call be received.
• The Technician reached the site within 1 hours of the initial call being received.
• On arrival the Technician carried out a risk assessment and survey and assessed which graffiti removal method would get the best results whilst preserving the wall.
• The graffiti was of a type that could not be removed using chemicals. An alternative graffiti removal method of soda blasting was chosen. This is gentler graffiti removal method than sand blasting and removes the paint by firing tiny particles of soda at the wall that slough of the paint without damaging the wall underneath.

Results

The graffiti removal method chosen very effectively removed the paint and ensured that the wall underneath was not damaged. The fast response of the Richfords Technician ensured that the offensive graffiti was removed before many people saw it.
