Advice Following Fire Damage

Has any electrical wiring or equipment suffered fire damage?

Ask a competent electrician to make safe before use following fire damage. Richfords can arrange this for customers.

Does anyone in the property suffer from allergies, breathing problems or asthma?

Following fire damage people with allergies, breathing problems or asthma should keep away until the air quality of the property that suffered the fire damage has improved. Soot particles and gases that fire damage creates can be unhealthy. Ventilation can help. If in doubt seek medical advice. All persons should take precautions to reduce inhalation of particles and post fire gases by ventilation or wearing breathing respirators.

Is the property secure?

Broken glass and locks may need urgent repair. If caused by the fire damage incident, the insurance claim will normally cover the cost of emergency boarding up. Securing properties following fire damage or theft is essential to reduce possibility of further losses.

Richfords have partnership arrangements with the Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service to secure properties following fire damage incidents. Boarding up is an important service which Richfords perform to increase customer security and peace of mind.

Richfords can also provide security guards to patrol the site.

Testing fire residues

We are able to test fire residues for chloride levels following fire damage. The higher the level of chloride, the greater the risk of corrosion. The results of this testing are immediately available. The results help us decide whether we need to take urgent preventative action to arrest corrosion damage of valuable items such as electronics or electrical equipment.

Reducing damage - fires

As with flood damage, our Quick Response vehicles are ready at all times to respond to your call for assistance. When on site we quickly take action to prevent corrosion, staining and to improve air quality.

We set up equipment to remove airborne particles. These are both a health hazard to susceptible individuals, and can result in new contamination as they settle from the air.
